Biography

Sackitey Tesa Mate-Kodjo is a visual artist based in Accra, Ghana, whose primary medium is photography. His work explores the relationship between identity, memory, and material culture, often using staged imagery to reflect on everyday life, shared human experience, and cross-cultural symbolism. Through the use of handmade props, carefully styled scenes, and a poetic visual language, Sackitey constructs photographs that invite reflection and reinterpretation.

Raised in a creatively active household, Sackitey and his siblings assisted their mother in designing costumes and making stage props, an early education in storytelling through materials. This background in hands-on creation, combined with his later studies in Business Administration, informs his disciplined yet intuitive approach to artmaking.

Since embarking on his photographic practice, Sackitey has adopted multiple creative roles, from set designer and stylist to director and visual researcher, approaching each project as a layered conversation between the imagined and the real. His work is grounded in process and care, emphasizing the emotional and symbolic possibilities of visual composition.

With an interdisciplinary mindset and a growing body of work, he continues to engage with photography as a tool for building new worlds and imagining alternate futures.
